WEEK 9 of 2013
Hello again, dear best friends! It’s me, Nacho Nova, the guy writing these words, with another week of updates relevant to the art you see here! Grab a mug of your favorite drink & a mug of your favorite sipping stew & come with me!
There seems to be no sign of things slowing down at Funnyco., which if I’m not careful will end up being the name of my business. The time is coming when I’m going to have to file official beeswax papers with the state & get a sales license & all those things to keep dirty Uncle Sam from imprisoning me.
Yes, I’m going to need business papers because I have stuff to sell again, just like I did when I opened a business in California & never sold anything! Except this time I feel like I’m executing all this independent artist stuff correctly, or at least with my full attention.
DATELINE, EL PASO, TX–A new art collective has opened downtown (501 Texas St.), the Bear Space Collective. This is the kind of art scene I’ve been hoping to see in El Paso, it feels great every time I’ve stepped into it. You can’t underestimate the value of good vibes, folks. There’s a lot of cool-looking stuff for sale & they’ve been kind enough to let me sell my greeting cards. Also, hey local artists, they make custom buttons there too via their Owl Paso Buttons outfit. These folks are on the ball & I am grateful to be a miniature part of the operation. Check it out if you get the chance, it will charge your soul for sure. The Bear Space Collective will also be part of TONIGHT’S Martket!!
What is Martket? I don’t know! & I didn’t know it at the time, but for the last two months I’ve been participating in it, a sort of art crawl event that seems to be gaining in popularity here. I’ve been jazzed to see a little more movement in the local art scene here in El Paso, TX, the place of my birth & a strange city that is in some ways unlike any city I’ve been to. But any emergent vibrancy is nice to see in an atmosphere of oppression. So the next Martket is happening from 6:30 to midnight, tonight, February 28th, 2013 (AD). If you are reading this in the future, beam some mind rays into my brain so that I may update my internet site with a recounting of how it went (prediciton: I was bitten by a radioactive spider that gave me radiation sickness.
So that should be a good time. Also, there’s probably more stuff going on but that’s the stuff that relates to local art. See you tonight in the semidarkness of the downtown streets filled with portable generators & food trucks!
